Short Stories of Life [1]: The Waiting

She hardly realized what she was doing, it didn't matter anyway. her thoughts were far far away, just like him, with him. No, he's not her lover, nor her husband, she even loves him more than that! Amazing how a heart can offer so much love, expecting nothing in return but some consideration, some care, compassion..

She stared at the boiling water in the cooking pan, "He won't be here today" she said to herself. She fought her tears as hard as she could but she is a weak fighter when it comes to her little ones. He left her a few days ago, went abroad to make his family proud, to make her proud!

"May god be with you at every step you take..I miss you son".

She continued whatever she was doing, and she stood there waiting, waiting for him to come back...

The plane wasn't crowded, it was nearly empty, just like his heart. He was sitting in a window seat, he stared at the horizon where the sun has nested, it looked so beautiful from up here. He wondered if looks the same down on the ground.

It was weird in a way he didn't expect, leaving home.

The sky pitied him, it prayed for him.

"Please fasten your seat belt Sir, we're landing soon" the flight attendant said to him with a bright smile. He nodded barley smiling back.

He stared at the city lights, it looked so beautiful from up here. He wondered if it looks the same down on the ground. He sat there waiting, waiting for landing...

She was laying on his chest, he was hugging her, she held his hands just like a baby holds his mother's. They just laid there in silence, where words were too meaningless, where love speaks. "Love is just like the air, you can feel it but you can't touch it" she always said that. Now she know how it feels.

He touched her tummy, "He's a boy" he thought in joy.

She closed her eyes promising herself to be the best mother ever. "He's a boy" She thought.

They laid there waiting, waiting to offer love...

She was hiding under the kitchen table, holding her ears and closing her eyes so hard, not hard enough to stop the tears out though. She was scared, not for herself no, she was scared for them. They didn't notice how terrified she was, they kept shouting.

Astonishing how children tips the limits of all feelings, even fear..

"Please stop!" she barely was heard. She continued crying, and hide waiting, waiting for them to stop...

The beeps of these machines were annoying him, He would've felt angry, but he was too weak to feel anything, anything but regret. He wondered why should it be regret though, of all what he has done in his life, why regret is the only visitor! "Maybe because am human" he laughed "We always want more, never get enough!".

"At least am gonna meet her soon" he said holding a picture in his hands, he looked much younger, standing beside a pretty woman, there was this look in his eyes, yeah he loved her.

"Time for your pills old man" the nurse said brightly. He nodded.

He laid there waiting, waiting to meet his wife...

I laid my head back on the chair, I feel like this period of my life doesn't count, its like life is giving me a break, a rest for the warrior. A warrior after a lousy battle, with a bloody blade and an empty soul. I closed my eyes to dream, the only thing am good at.

It felt so dark, the only hope is that bright light the end of the tunnel, it was so small, so hard to reach, yet so beautiful. It was just like the brightest star in the sky, the one that gives hope to lost sailors.

For a moment I sank deep into the dream that I swear I could've felt her touching my hands. I opened my eyes abruptly, stared at my hand, sadly enough it was only my hand.

I laid my head back again, closed my eyes and stayed there waiting. Waiting for a miracle...
